How the Estimate Process Works
We've kept the estimate process simple — because that's what most homeowners in The Woodlands tell us they want. No back-and-forth scheduling, no high-pressure sales visits, no waiting a week to get a number back. Here's exactly what you can expect from the moment you submit the form to the day we start your project.
Personal Phone Call from Nick
After you submit the form, Nick (the owner) personally calls you — not a sales rep, not an answering service. The call usually takes 5-10 minutes. We talk about what you're trying to fix or build, the rough scope, any photos you already have, and your timeline. If we're a good fit, we schedule the on-site visit. If we're not, we'll tell you straight and suggest someone better suited for the job.
Free On-Site Walkthrough (30-60 min)
Nick comes out to your property at a time that works for you — including evenings and Saturday mornings. We walk the project together, take measurements and photos, identify the root cause of any wood rot or structural issues, and discuss material options. If there's something the marketing photos don't show (like hidden water damage behind fascia), we'll find it now — not on a change order three weeks into the job.
Written Estimate in Your Inbox
You get a detailed PDF estimate by email. Materials, labor, equipment, and any required permits are itemized line by line. No "lump sum" mystery numbers. If there are options to consider (cedar vs composite, paint vs stain, full replacement vs partial repair), we lay out the cost of each so you can make an informed choice.
You Take Your Time
Compare us against other quotes. Ask follow-up questions by text. Get a second opinion. We don't use deadlines or "if you sign today" pricing tricks — and we don't follow up more than once unless you ask us to. If you decide to move forward, we'll schedule a start date that works around your life. If you decide to go elsewhere, no hard feelings — we'd rather lose a job we weren't right for than start one we regret.
Estimate FAQ
Is the estimate really free, with no obligation?
Yes. There's no fee for the on-site visit, no fee for the written estimate, and no obligation to hire us. We don't add the cost of "free" estimates back into the project price either — our numbers are what they are. Some contractors charge $100-$300 for estimates; we never have and never will.
How long is the estimate valid?
30 days. After that, material prices may have moved (especially cedar and pressure-treated lumber, which fluctuate seasonally). If you come back after 30 days and the numbers still work, we'll honor them. If lumber has spiked, we'll talk through it before signing anything.
Will the final price match the estimate exactly?
Yes — barring scope changes you authorize in writing. If we open up a wall during demo and find unexpected rot or termite damage, we stop work, document it with photos, and give you a written change order with the additional cost. You decide whether to proceed before we touch anything. We don't surprise people with bills.
Do you need a deposit?
For most projects, we require a 50% deposit, which secures your start date and covers materials. The remaining 50% is due on completion. For larger projects, we use a milestone payment schedule that's spelled out in the contract — you only pay for work that's already been completed and approved.
What if I'm not sure exactly what I want yet?
That's completely fine — most homeowners aren't. Bring us photos from Pinterest, screenshots, or even rough sketches. Part of the on-site visit is helping you figure out what's possible within your budget. If you're between two approaches (say, refinishing cabinets vs replacing them), we'll quote both and explain the tradeoffs.
How far do you travel for estimates?
We cover The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, Montgomery, Tomball, Magnolia, and Humble at no charge. Outside that radius, we'll still come out — but we may ask a few extra questions on the phone first to make sure the trip is worth your time and ours.
